You don’t have to figure it out alone — and you don’t have to start from scratch.
Whether you’re starting a new student affinity group, strengthening a program that already exists, or looking for a more sustainable way to support student leadership — The Heartwork Collaborative offers practical resources, professional learning, and strategic support grounded in real school experience.
Built from experience. Designed for sustainability.
The Heartwork Collaborative exists to make meaningful educational work more sustainable — and more transferable.
Schools ask educators to nurture communities, launch programs, develop student leaders, and strengthen belonging, often without the time, resources, or systems to sustain that work after their first champion moves on. Too many extracurricular initiatives stall not because their sponsors lack passion, but because the knowledge lives in one person’s head instead of the community’s hands.
Every resource, workshop, and consultation is built around one goal: helping educators and student leaders develop the understanding and systems to keep doing this work long after our direct involvement has ended. That’s not a flaw — it’s the point.
The Heartwork Collaborative began with a personal realization: the parts of education that had always mattered most to me — building community, developing student leaders, creating spaces where young people feel genuinely seen — were no longer the center of my day-to-day work. It was the extra I gave, above and beyond my duty day, from my own wallet, making it up as I went along. I missed that work. And, although I knew I couldn’t sustain that effort forever, I didn’t want the lessons it had taught me to disappear.
This organization is how I carry those lessons forward.
What I’ve learned from my own experience is that strong programs can’t depend on one extraordinary person working extraordinarily hard, because they will ultimately fail. They depend on sustainable systems, shared leadership, and the confidence that comes from knowing what to do and why it works.
That’s what The Heartwork Collaborative is built to offer. Not another thing to add to an already full plate — but a clearer, more confident path through the work that already matters to you.
If you’re building something that matters, you’re in the right place.
The Heartwork Collaborative is for educators at every stage of this work.
- New affinity group sponsors figuring out where to start
- Experienced advisors looking for better systems and less reinvention
- Teachers creating meaningful leadership opportunities for students

- District staff developing approaches that can work across schools
